Condition | Handsome, vintage, newel post salvaged from an 1880's home in Forkston, PA (est. 1795, pop. 305)--see last photo. Although the home was that old, this post was made around the middle of the previous century. It's made of solid pine or Douglas Fir, and is stained and finished (not painted). It has a straight shaft or body with a square top and ball finial. This post was positioned at the bottom of the stair case so it has a cutout at its base for where the first step was located. This cut-out could either be cut off (reducing the height to 46") or filled with wood to keep the current 54" H or even make it taller--email us for a quote.Otherwise, the post is in great shape. It has the typical nicks, scrapes, scratches, and nail holes which should be expected from old, staircase parts. However, there are no serious breaks or cracks, rot, or wrap. It's strong, sturdy, and ready for another lifetime of service!Dimensions:Base: 6" x 7 1/4"Cap: 7 1/8" x 8 3/8"Height: 54" (49 3/2" without |
